2 hours in Richmond

Walk around Richmond Green, and take a look at the remains of the old Richmond Palace built by Henry VII, who later died in the Palace, as did Elizabeth I (you can visit Local Studies in The Old Town Hall for further information).
Old Palace Yard and Old Palace Lane will take you from the old Richmond Palace site down to the riverside, turn left and walk along the river to St Helena Pier.
Take a 45 minute return boat trip to Teddington Lock which run October to April at 15 minutes past the hour.
Walk back to Richmond Green and have lunch at one of the cafes or pubs down the cobbled lanes.

This 45-minute cruise takes you from Richmond to Teddington, passing Marble Hill Park, Twickenham Riverside and Eel Pie Island, before turning round below Teddington Lock and returning to Richmond.

Richmond Green has been an important open space since the Middle Ages when it hosted jousting competitions. The remnants of Richmond Palace can be seen on one side of the Green. Many fine old houses, the central library and the famous Richmond Theatre flank the Green which is also a venue for various festivities throughout the year, including the May Fair and the Victorian Evening at Christmas time. Cricket matches take place here every now and then.

Richmond Green in located very close to Richmond Station - once out of the station, cross the road, walk to the right and turn left into the Old Station Passage, an alleyway between buildings. At the end of the passage turn left, pass the Little Green on your right and Richmond Lending Library and Richmond Theatre on your left.
