A dazzling mix of virtuoso performance and narration recreates one of the strangest detective stories in the history of music. In 1933 Jelly d’Arányi, one of the greatest violinists of her day, received a message via a Ouija board supposedly from the spirit of Robert Schumann, asking her to find and play his long-suppressed Violin Concerto. Jessica Duchen’s new novel Ghost Variations is based on these extraordinary events. This exceptional concert unites local author Jessica Duchen with violinist David Le Page and pianist Viv McLean to present the tale in words and music associated with d’Arányi, including Brahms, Mendelssohn, Bartók, Ravel and, of course, Schumann.
