The Extraordinary Life of E. Nesbit is Elisabeth Galvin’s biography of the much loved author of Five Children and It and The Railway Children on the 160th anniversary of her birth. Hailed as the first modern writer for children, E. Nesbit was one of the most well-loved children’s authors of her time, with her stories of female heroines, magic and adventure influencing children’s literature over a century later.

Galvin’s new biography reveals how Edith Nesbit’s colourful private life influenced her writing – from her wild bohemian parties with George Bernard Shaw and H.G Wells where she would throw away her corset, flash her knickers and bicycle around London, to the death of her son aged just fifteen, Galvin explores the secrets she kept so well hidden from the public - including what happened when her husband had two children with her best friend…
