Literary Event, Tue 6 Nov 2018

Richmond Library Annexe

Quadrant Road,

Join author Frances Welch as she recounts three extraordinary meetings that took place between
the British and Russian Royal Families between 1894 and the Romanov’s’ tragic end in 1918.
The Imperial Tea Party tells the story of two imperial dynasties in a pivotal moment of social unrest and political upheaval. Welch paints a vivid picture of these meetings, from the Romanovs’ suffering the draughty rooms and wet hunting expeditions at Balmoral, to Queen Victoria
complaining about the food on her visit to the Russian Empire’s port of Revel and everyone
succumbing to seasickness when arriving at Osborne House on the Isle of Wight. Praised as a book both elegant and insightful, Welch has written extensively on Russia’s history, publishing acclaimed books Rasputin, The Russian Court at Sea, Romanov Fantasy and Sydney Gibbes: Tutor to the Children of the Last Tsar.
