Literary Event, Thu 22 Nov 2018

Dan Snow is a historian, BAFTA-winning broadcaster and television presenter. His award-winning History Hit podcast is downloaded a million times a month, he has over 230,000 followers on Twitter and has recently launched HistoryHit.TV, which was described by Forbes magazine as ‘the Netflix for History’. He has presented shows such as The Vikings Uncovered and D-Day: The Last Heroes. He also has a regular slot on BBC’s The One Show.

In On This Day in History Snow will bring to life a key event that happened on each day of the year. Some are famous – Julius Caesar fatally ignoring a soothsayer’s warning about 15 March, others are more surprising – from Ada Lovelace’s meeting in 1833 which led to the invention of the computer, to the Great Beer Flood of 1814. Dan shows how each offers a different and unexpected insight into our past.

Dan lives and breathes history and believes passionately that we overlook it at our peril: In a world of fake news, cuts to history education and politicians spouting fiction, there has never been a more important time to tell the true history of the world.
