The Roebuck Pub Exterior

About

Nestled in a prime position on Richmond Hill for more than 300 years, the historic Roebuck is now “as splendid as its view” following a sensitive, refurbishment by leading UK pub company, Greene King.

Standing on Richmond Hill and offering outstanding views over royal parkland and the Thames, the pub’s rich history has been brought to life through new interiors and fittings.

The newly extended bar showcases an enhanced range of British cask ales and wines, alongside signature cocktails and soft drinks.

Forming part of the company’s portfolio of historical landmark pubs, the Roebuck’s refurbishment has brought to life Greene King’s rich pub heritage through its elevated interiors, premium drinks offer, simple honest pub food and welcoming guest experience.

As part of the refurbishment process, the team commissioned British pub historian and writer Pete Brown, to help bring the Roebuck’s unique story to life, from links to the celebrated painter JMW Turner, through to its uninterrupted views of the royal parkland of Richmond Hill and the Arcadian Thames.

Retaining its original name since 1717, the Roebuck has been lovingly reclaimed, restored and elevated to give the historic pub a new lease of life that seamlessly blends its extensive history, with a refreshed and considered interior.

Interior highlights include the curation of the pub’s extensive artwork collection, original open fireplaces, restored leather and vintage furniture, terracotta tile and parquet flooring, and brass accent finishes.

Set across two floors offering designated drinking and dining areas, cosy drinking ‘nooks’ now sit comfortably alongside an open-plan lounge in the newly extended bar on the ground floor.

The expanded first floor dining space features a floor to ceiling parkland mural and can be booked for both business meetings and special events such as weddings, christenings, and other celebrations for up to 60 guests.

Overlooking the Roebuck’s famous Richmond Hill view, the only English landscape view in the UK protected by an Act of Parliament, the pub’s ‘Parliament table’, offers a picture-perfect dining experience with uninterrupted views over the royal parkland. Whilst the ‘Turner Room’, named after the pub’s historical links to painter JMW Turner, offers an intimate dining experience that can be booked for up to 10 guests.

In keeping with pub traditions, the newly extended main bar showcases an enhanced drinks offer perfect for any occasion. With cask ales taking prime position, the range includes the pub’s very own Roebuck Pale Ale, a tropical fruit, mango and floral beer, sitting alongside favourites such as Abbot Ale, Greene King IPA and three local guest ales. Over 15 new wines, including a selection of English sparkling wines and Champagnes, have also been added to the pub’s extensive house wine list.

Signature cocktails include classics such as Blackberry Tom Collins and a Negroni Sbagliato, which are available alongside a variety of spritz and premium spirits, non-alcoholic options, and soft drinks. Partnering with ethical coffee roasters, Paddy & Scott’s, the pub is also offering a range of barista-made coffees and Green & Black’s hot chocolates. All drinks are served daily from 11am.

Perfectly paired with its new drinks range, the Roebuck has launched a brand-new food menu that celebrates the best of feel-good, honest pub food, including comforting classics from hearty roasts and moreish starters to sharing plates, pub snacks and indulgent desserts. Highlights include homemade Welsh Rarebit Sausage Rolls, the Roebuck Ploughman's Sharing Platter and the famously comforting Great British Cheese Toastie.

Alex Dawson, Business Unit Director for Greene King, said: “With a vista that has been celebrated by some of the world’s greatest artists, it was key that the Roebuck’s unique heritage continues to have a special place in the history of Richmond.

“The refurbishment marks the start of an exciting new chapter for the pub and really showcases the pub’s story and originality, with every aspect of the Roebuck elevated, from its menu to its vintage interiors.

“We’re proud that this investment has enabled the Roebuck to become as splendid as its view, offering a warm and welcome space that celebrates a piece of history that can be enjoyed by generations to come.”

The Roebuck is open daily from 11am for everything from tempting pub snacks and light lunches to catch ups with friends over drinks and evening supper. For more information, to discover the menus and to book a table, visit  www.greeneking.co.uk/pubs/surrey/roebuck.
