Steven Isserlis cello, Olli Mustonen piano

About

Steven Isserlis cello
Olli Mustonen piano
Born and raised in Barnes, Steven Isserlis is acclaimed worldwide for his profound musicianship and technical mastery. He enjoys a uniquely varied career as a soloist, chamber musician, educator, author and broadcaster. He appears with the world’s leading orchestras and conductors, and gives recitals in major musical centres. As a chamber musician, he has curated concert series for many prestigious venues, including London’s Wigmore Hall, New York’s 92nd St Y, and the Salzburg Festival. Unusually, he also directs chamber orchestras from the cello in classical programmes. Steven is one of the distinguished artists from the last ten years who is returning to help us celebrate our anniversary.

Steven and Finnish composer and pianist Olli Mustonen, have a relationship spanning over thirty years, and in 2019, their disc of Russian works for cello and piano was released on the Hyperion label. This programme draws together music old and new for the cello ranging from Beethoven’s sublime 3rd Cello Sonata to a Sonata composed and recorded by this duo. This concert is not to be missed.
