About
This virtual heritage event explores the story behind the ground-breaking digital reconstruction of a journey up the Thames to visit Alexander Pope's villa and gardens as they would have appeared to visitors in 1740. It is brought to you by Pope's Grotto Preservation Trust in partnership with the London Luminaries team.
Professor Judith Hawley will chair a presentation by Professor Paul Richens on the research carried out and the discoveries he made with his team of citizen historians. Looking at historic maps, contemporary accounts, and riverine, garden and local architectural history, we will learn how this extraordinary glimpse of 18th century Twickenham came to be.
Questions will be warmly welcomed.
