About
There can be no doubt that summer is a time of plenty, our centre is burgeoning with insects, wildflowers, and young birds and mammals. Encouraged by a period of warmth and the long hours of daylight, much of our wildlife is at its most numerous and active.
Photographer Jackie Rado will guide you through a practical and hands on photography workshop focusing on the brilliant and intense light of summer. We will look at how to manage exposure settings on your camera, as well as tools and filters to make the most of the summer light. We also look at ways to capture and track birds and wildlife, both fast moving and still.
The day will begin with an introduction inside, before heading out into our nature reserve. This workshop is ideal for all levels of photography, and tuition will be tailored to suit individual requirements. Due to small course numbers there will be plenty of time for 1-2-1 tuition.
Please bring your camera with fully charged batteries and formatted memory cards. A standard mid-range zoom lens is perfect and if you have a longer lens as well bring it along.

Road Directions
By car
The centre is located just off the main A306. Once in Barnes you can follow the brown tourist signs to the centre. The centre is situated outside the London Congestion Charging Zone. From 25th October 2021 the centre will be inside the ULEZ Charging Zone.
There is free parking for visitors to our wetland centre, please input your car registration details at admissions.
We now have 4 public electric vehicle (EV) chargepoints in place, available to visitors at a charge of 25p/kWH, to cover electricity costs. These chargepoints are on the Podpoint Network and appear on the Podpoint and Zapmap chargepoint maps so you can double check they are available and working before coming to the site. If you haven't already, save time by downloading the Podpoint app before your visit.
By coach
The centre has parking for nine large coaches. Parking is free for coaches bringing visitors to the centre, but places must be booked in advance.
Public Transport Directions
By bike
The London Wetland Centre is situated on Sustrans Cycle Route 4, which includes access from the River Thames towpath. Cycling makes for an environmentally friendly and pleasant way to arrive at the centre and in addition to standard cycle racks there are eighteen secure bike cages (we strongly recommend that you bring a D lock to secure your bike).
Santander is a cycle hire scheme in operation across London. The nearest bikes can be found at the Putney Pier Station – a mile’s walk along the river to the centre.
On foot
The centre is easily accessible from the River Thames towpath, situated on the south bank between Hammersmith Bridge and Putney Bridge (about 25 minutes’ walk from either location).
By bus
Buses 33, 419 and 209 stop nearby (alight at the Red Lion stop, approximately 100 metres walk from the wetland centre).
The 485 bus from Hammersmith comes directly into the Centre. Please note that this is not a frequent service (twice an hour with no service on Sundays or Bank Holidays).
In light of the Hammersmith Bridge closure, a new route, 533, has been created running between Hammersmith Bus Station and Barnes Pond via Chiswick Bridge. Alight at Nassau Road, approximately a 20 minute walk from the centre.
By rail
From Barnes station it is a 15 minute walk to the centre (or 5 minutes by bus).
You can also alight at Barnes Bridge station which is a 15 minute walk to the centre through Barnes village (or catch the 209 bus).
Please note the walk from Barnes station involves a crossroads without a pedestrian crossing. For visitors with mobility issues or young children it be more suitable to take a slightly longer route either through Barnes village or across the commons, to avoid this crossing. For any further guidance, get in touch.
By tube
Hammersmith tube (on the Piccadilly and District & Circle Lines) is the nearest tube station. From here it is a bus ride (routes 209/533) to the Red Lion pub, approximately 150 metres from the Centre.
By air
Heathrow Airport is approximately one hour from the London Wetland Centre by car or public transport (Piccadilly Line from Heathrow Airport to Hammersmith, then buses as above).
