Have you heard of Hairy Earth Tongue, Poison Pie or Witches Butter? Or perhaps you’ve heard of White Brain Fungus? Contrary to what you might believe these have nothing to do with Halloween, they’re actually just a few of the many types of fungi that can be found at London Wetland Centre.

Go on this autumnal stroll around the reserve to see what fascinating fungi is lurking under the leaves, amongst the fields or on trees. You’ll be introduced to the marvellous world of mushrooms and learn how identify a range of species. Around this time of year we would expect to see Pleated Inkcap, Field Mushroom, Brown Birch Bolete and varieties of puffballs and waxcaps. Please note that we will not be picking fungi: we leave these to grow and reproduce as they’re a vital part of the ecosystem of our nature reserve.
