Due to Covid 19 restrictions Barnes Art Fair will no longer be taking place at St Michael & All Angels Church. It will instead become an online show with over 25 local artists exhibiting their recent work with a selection of art in local Barnes shops windows to coincide with #SHOPLOCAL this Christmas. Barnes Art Vouchers will also be available to purchase for gifts.

After a shaky start lockdown proved to be a consistently creative period for Barnes Artists. Most of their new work is inspired by and reflects the natural beauty and wildlife of Barnes.

Many artists showing at last year's Barnes Art Fair were so popular their work almost sold out by the weekend. Andrew Childs, the Barnes Art Fair Curator, said 'We sold over £13k of work last year and I feel confident the standard of work will be even higher due to the extra time artists have had to develop their talent.

Bestselling figurative and landscape painter Sarah Dickinson would get up at 5am to capture the emerging light in Barn Elms Allotments and Barnes Common from May to July, 'the early sunshine was particularly beautiful on the long flaxen grass and lace caps'

For artist and busy mum of three, Gosia Tomczuk found time to revisit her favourite places where she recalled her most cherished memories - Barnes pond, Hammersmith Bridge, and Barnes Common. 'As I slowed down I started to appreciate these surroundings much more and see them as "windows" of happy times which I developed into atmospheric drawings.

Lockdown was a game changer for illustrator, and Workshop Manager of an international artist, Sophia Bloxham 'going from a hectic full time job to artist of leisure using my kitchen as a studio, meant I had the time to experiment with different materials and develop new ideas and style. Having the time to reflect on what I’m making has revitalised me creatively and I’ve now got a new lease of energy that I’m trying to maintain now I’m back to work'

Father Stephen Stavrou says "St Michael's is proud to support and work with local artists, and I'm delighted that the 2020 Barnes Art Fair is going online. The pandemic has been an extraordinarily creative time and taught us how much can be done remotely! Nevertheless, we look forward to welcoming Barnes Artists and the local community back to the church for next year's exhibition."
