Workshop/Course, Sat 8 - Sun 9 Aug 2020

Royal School of Needlework

Apartment 12A Hampton Court Palace,
East Molesey,

Learn traditional Silk Shading technique by working this beautiful flamingo. Silk Shading is also known as ‘Painting with a Needle’. Nowadays mainly stranded cotton threads are used to stitch Silk Shaded designs because of their availability and a wide range of colours.

Following tutor’s step-by-step instructions, you will practice creating blended and smooth shading. Learn about common mistakes in Silk Shading and study Split Stitch, as well as Long and Short Stitch. Find out how to make stitching flow without any visible boundaries between colours, and how to make stitched edges look crisp and neat. The tutor will show you how to work with two hands and using a few embroidery needles at the same time to speed up your work, you will have all day to practice this working technique.

During the class you will see demonstrations of all the required techniques, as well as receiving individual attention from the tutor allowing you to develop your skills at your own pace.

This class is suitable for those who have some prior embroidery experience.
