Workshop/Course, Sat 4 Apr 2020

Royal School of Needlework

Apartment 12A Hampton Court Palace,
East Molesey,

The pomegranate was the symbol of Catherine of Aragon which brings us to Hampton Court Palace the home for your one day class. The pomegranate had dual symbolism of immortality and resurrection as well as fertility and has been used in art and embroidery for hundreds of years.

This intermediate class will introduce you to heavy carpet felt padding for the outer shell of the pomegranate with the internal fruit created by working laid gold over string padding. This will introduce you to the complexities of padding for goldwork ensuring that it is a solid foundation for the gold threads. The finishing touch is the string padded stalk with brilliant silver passing couched to and fro over the padding allowing the light to play on the surface.

This is the ideal class for those wish to develop their Goldwork skills and is misleading in its simplicity.

The class kit will include everything you require to complete the project. You may like to bring your own embroidery scissors and you will be able to borrow ring frames, magnifiers and lights (if needed) on the day.
