This 90 minute workshop led by Dr Russell Schechter from St Mary’s University looks at ways of moving beyond the genesis of the novel, and aims to help writers concentrate and consolidate their thoughts and ambitions into something real and manageable.

Where do ideas for novels come from? How can you tell if your idea is good enough to carry a whole book? Should you plot the whole thing out, or just close your eyes, cross your fingers and start writing? Come along if you have an idea for a novel, and want help planning your next step.
Russell Schechter is Senior Lecturer in Creative Writing and leads the MA Creative Writing: First Novel degree at St Mary’s, Twickenham. As ‘Jay Russell’ he is the author of eight books and numerous short stories in the genres of horror, crime, fantasy and science fiction.
