About
St Mary's University - Spring Festival
Somewhere, in the distance, war is raging but, in their Dacha, protected from the bombs and tanks, three sisters, fuelled by boredom, Nirvana and David Bowie, sidestep the present, to dream of their own escape.
As part of their Spring festival St Mary's University final year BA Acting students perform Benedict Andrew's modern reimagining of Chekhov's masterpiece. Unapologetically turbo charged this version propels the action into the present day, pointedly reminding us of the common need for endurance in the face of dashed hopes and the lengths we may go to, in avoidance of the truth.
Performed by Level 6 BA Acting Students – St Mary's University. Directed by Philip Correia.
Benedict Andrews' adaptation has received excellent reviews:
'Energising, modern....grabs some of the most thorny Chekhov questions about human existence with a firm, unsentimental grip' Huffington Post
'Profoundly moving....this is Chekhov refreshed and reimagined' Guardian – 2012 premier at the Old Vic
