The Mikado quickly established itself as the best loved of all the G&S operas. However, when Gilbert was writing it in the 1880’s, he wasn't writing about Japan but used this as a pretext to poke fun at the social and political institutions of the day. In a year that has given us Brexit and women dominating the news across the political spectrum, this production of The Mikado will offer up a few topical twists! So come along and find out who will beLord High Substitute and whether our star-crossed lovers will live as happily asThe Flowers that Bloom in the Spring!

Allegedly inspired by an ornamental sword hanging on the wall in W S Gilbert's library, Gilbert and Sullivan's satire of Victorian English society through the lens of Japanese culture remains one of their most popular shows today.
