100 years on and we are still commemorating a war that has shaped world happenings ever since, inspiring much evocative music and poetry. Well known poems by Rupert Brooke, Wilfred Owen, Siegfried Sassoon will be performed by actors Madeline Smith, Robert Gillespie, Sara Burn Edwards, Francis Abbott and others. Poetry authors, Bob Sheed and Greg Freeman are representative of several other local poets to perform Some of Vesta Tilley's war rousing, patriotic songs will be sung by Fleur de Henrie Pearce whilst Robin Legard's rendition of 'Stille Nacht' provides a contemplative moment. A special script has been written for this event by thespian writer, John Crook. John has embraced four main themes for this afternoon of commemoration: romanticism; woman's experience of war; the horrors of war; the aftermath and echoes of war.
