Details

Join us for a presentation by Strawberry Hill Guide, Julie Mason Jebb on Walpole’s novel The Castle of Otranto in relation to both Strawberry Hill House and the political situation Walpole found himself in at the time of writing the first Gothic novel. This will be followed by a discussion of the novel We Have Always Lived in the Castle, Jackson's final work, published three years before the author's death in 1965. The novel is written in the voice of eighteen-year-old Mary Katherine "Merricat" Blackwood, who lives with her sister and uncle on an estate in Vermont. Six years before the events of the novel, the Blackwood family experienced a tragedy that left the three survivors isolated from the rest of their small village.
