Gerard Flotats cello

About

Prize-winning Catalan cellist Gerard Flotats is a versatile young musician and winner of the Royal Over-Seas League Strings Competition. He has been selected for the Tillett Debut, PDGYA, and Munster Trust Recital schemes, gaining wide performance experience from an early age. Flotats has appeared in festivals such as Yellow Barn, IMS Prussia Cove, and the Kronberg Cello Masterclasses, and has performed with artists including Daniel Hope, Anthony Marwood, Alasdair Beatson, and the Doric Quartet. A recent graduate of the Barenboim-Said Akademie in Berlin, where he studied with Frans Helmerson, he previously trained with Hannah Roberts at the Royal Academy of Music. Gerard plays an Amati cello from the 1680s.

His programme features works by Edmund Finnis, Eugène Ysaÿe, J.S. Bach, Gaspar Cassadó, and a traditional Catalan piece arranged by Gerard himself. Through this concert, he explores the expressive range of the cello, from timeless classics to vibrant contemporary sounds.
