Migration Festival

This year we celebrate Migration Festival from 2-4 May!

Spring brings an exciting influx of migratory species to WWT London Wetland Centre, particularly those travelling from West Africa. The WWT centre celebrates this through music, food, storytelling, and hands‑on activities for all ages. The lively, multi‑sensory experience that explores the remarkable journeys of migratory birds and the shared stories of movement and connection across the globe.

Discover sand martins (from our sand martin hide), swifts, yellow wagtails, common terns, little ringed plovers, chiffchaffs, and several warbler species.

Become a Guardian of the Wild

Meet Ava, our half‑Osprey, half‑girl puppet, in a family-friendly puppet show and nature challenge. Children take part in hands‑on activities to connect with the natural world and earn their title as Guardians of the Wild, with a take‑home activity sheet to continue the adventure. Activity included with admission.
Join Wuntanara (Dance along)

Join Wuntanara for an exciting series of high-energy dance workshops designed to boost confidence and coordination while introducing visitors to the joy of West African traditions at our very first Migration Festival.
Discover Migratory Birds

Join us for Stork Talks and guided migratory bird walks during our Migration Festival. Meet our resident white storks, Clam, Keith and Kevin (Yes, they are girls), during a short talk with our team. Learn about these impressive birds, what they eat, and the incredible migrations their wild relatives make between Europe and West Africa each year.
Join Shirley (Explore Taste)

Embark on a culinary journey through West African flavours with a Jollof Rice cooking class for our Migration Festival. Make your own Jollof Rice with Shirley while learning the stories behind the dish and its links to migratory birds. A delicious blend of food, culture, and nature.
Journey Through Sound, Story & Craft

Join African Activities for a vibrant line-up of immersive workshops celebrating culture, music, and creativity at our very first Migration Festival. Feel the rhythm! Join an inclusive, hands‑on djembe drumming workshop that brings the vibrant beats of West Africa to the wetlands. A fun, immersive experience for all ages that connects culture, rhythm, and the journeys of migratory birds. West African Storytelling Join in with drumming, rhythm and call‑and‑response as traditional West African tales unfold. A playful way to explore culture and wildlife through sound and imagination.
