About

Built in the 17th Century, York House retains many original features – from the wooden staircase to the stucco decor and fireplaces. It is a popular location for film makers with records starting as early as 1966 when the original Alfie was filmed through to the more recent and popular Downton Abbey.

Alfie
Starring Michael Caine, the original Alfie was filmed at York House which doubled as a convalescent home.

Downtown Abbey
Filmed in the Salon and Octagon Room in 2013, this scene was of Anna and Mr Bates having lunch at a café when some of the Crawley family arrive.

Summer In February
Set in Cornwall, Summer in February tells the tale of scandal in an Edwardian artists’ colony.
The Clarendon Hall played host to the film starring Dan Stevens (of Downton Abbey fame) and Dominic Cooper. The hall was painted a deep red and became an art gallery for a couple of days. To see the trailer follows this link https://youtu.be/hcow3GMWqfY
