About

John Strachan Owls in Bushy Park

Tuesday 4th February, 7.30pm – York House, Hyde Room

John, a trained scientist, bird photographer extraordinaire and Group committee member, ran a pilot survey on owls in Bushy Park last winter and tried out various survey techniques, involving looking for them, listening for them by ear and using sound recorders to perform passive bioacoustics monitoring. In this talk he'll summarise from the literature the knowledge of the owl species we typically find in our parks and then share his findings from this pilot survey. This winter he will be running another survey, in an attempt to identify all the territories and numbers of owls in the park. He will also be using thermal imaging to monitor them and will be able to give us some preliminary results from this. Needless to say, John will have plenty of beautiful photos of the owls in our local parks to illustrate his talk.

Non members of our local group are very welcome to attend for a donation of £5.00 payable at the event.
