About
Are you captivated by the intricate details and patterns found in nature? This course invites you to explore that fascination through the meditative practice of drawing. Perfect for those who enjoy methodical, detailed work, you’ll learn to observe closely and draw with precision and creativity.
You’ll discover how to select a subject, sketch it in pencil, and bring it to life with ink — capturing texture, form, and pattern in your own original style. Working from real specimens like butterflies, beetles, flowers, seedpods, pinecones, and shells – as well as high-quality photographs – you’ll develop your observational drawing skills and create a personal collection of artworks in a sketchbook, possibly using a concertina format.
We’ll explore a range of mark-making techniques with ink pens to create dynamic textures. Along the way, you’ll be inspired by examples from the tutor’s portfolio and by renowned artists throughout history who drew from nature. You’ll also gain insight into the broader artistic possibilities of pen and ink.
Open to all adults – suitable for beginner, intermediate, and advanced levels.
