Join historian Amy Jeffs as she breathes new life into the legend of King Arthur.

From Malory to Monty Python, we think we know the Arthurian legends, but Amy Jeffs will introduce us to lesser-known, wilder sources from the Middle Ages. These older stories awaken a different Arthur: a larger-than-life warlord with an ambitious quest for empire, a hero raised by fairies, and a monster slayer who encountered demon lovers, werewolves, and a Scottish army of dog-headed men.

Using original medieval and early modern texts, Amy traces fascinating Arthurian connections to Bronze Age daggers, hollow oak burials, the Order of the Garter, a miracle at Edward the Confessor’s tomb, and Henry VIII’s restoration of Edward III’s Round Table. Discover the legend of King Arthur anew.

Amy will be in conversation with Euan Roger, collections specialist at The National Archives. Their conversation will last approximately 30 – 40 minutes, followed by an audience Q&A.
