About
A FREE temporary exhibition at the Museum of Richmond exploring a little-known local invention with a tremendous global impact.
Artificial silk - or more specifically, 'viscose rayon' - is a soft, silky textile made from wood pulp. Invented in Kew in the early 1900s, viscose rayon was the first man-made fibre produced in the UK and remains one of the most widely produced textiles in the world today.
The exhibition includes a display of artworks produced by Art and Design students at Richmond upon Thames College inspired by related themes.
