Hopeful Monster: Build your own bug!

About

Step into the world of insects in this playful, hands-on workshop where imagination and science come together.

Scientists estimate there could be millions of insect species still waiting to be discovered, and now it’s your turn to invent one! Become a newly fledged entomologist as you work together to create bizarre and brilliant bugs entirely new to science.

Using wearable costumes and objects made from recycled and second-hand materials, participants will build their own insects by adding legs, antennae, wings, mouthparts, exoskeletons, and more. Along the way, you’ll explore how real insects’ bodies are specially adapted to survive in different environments and discover how they move through the world.

Working in teams, you’ll develop your creature’s unique characteristics before presenting your newly discovered species to the rest of the group.

Perfect for curious minds, creative makers, and bug lovers of all ages.

  • Suitable for: Ages 5+
  • Date: 12 August
  • Times: 10:30am, 12:00pm & 2:30pm

What participants said:

“It was fun and it shows you shouldn’t hate any bugs even if you’re scared of them.”
