Kew Sinfonia Spring Concert

About

GLINKA Overture Ruslan and Lyudmila
SIBELIUS Violin Concerto
NIELSEN Symphony No 1

Daniel Hogan Conductor
Lucilla Mariotti Violin
Catherine Schofield Leader

Presenting our 2024 spring concert, Kew Sinfonia invites you to enjoy an evening of music by Glinka, Sibelius and Nielsen.

The concert opens in spirited style with Glinka's excitingly energetic opera overture, Ruslan and Lyudmila.

Next, we are thrilled to be joined by the brilliantly talented violinist Lucilla Rose Mariotti who will play Sibelius' gorgeous and enduringly popular violin concerto, with its haunting Nordic expression and virtuosic solo part. Lucilla plays a 1709 Stradivari violin – don't miss this rare chance to hear a Strad played live!

To finish, we perform Danish composer Carl Nielsen's 1st Symphony. Written at the age of 27 and romantically dedicated to his new wife of one year, Anne-Marie, this youthful work is full of charm and humour, but with a Beethovian-like energy and boldness.
