About
'London from the Rooftops'
James is London's unofficial skyline photographer. What began in his teens as bike journeys through neighbourhoods like Lambeth, Hackney, and Stratford grew into a fascination with London's hidden corners and, eventually, its high-rise views.
Burns discovered photography in 2003 as the perfect way to express his deepening connection to the city. By 2004, The Princes Trust had recognised his passion and helped him to find his first local authority clients and to get him set up in business as a professional photographer. Years of building relationships allowed him to access some of London's most striking rooftops, forming the foundation of what would become his defining project.
In 2012, Burns held his first major London From The Rooftops exhibition—marking a milestone in nearly a decade of dedicated work.
In this talk, he will share the journey, the stories behind the images, and the passion that keeps him exploring London's skyline.
