About
Music has always played a central and much valued role in the cultural life of St Paul’s Girls’ School. Gustav Holst was appointed as the school’s first director of music in 1905 and remained in post until his death in 1934. In his 150th birthday year, the singers and instrumentalists of SPGS, present a programme of Holst’s music. From the well-known St Paul’s Suite and piano duet version of The Planets, to the more obscure Seven Choruses from the Alcestis of Euripides for upper voices, harp, flute, oboe and clarinet, and the unpublished Masque of Dame Christian this promises to be a fantastic celebration of all things Holst!
