The Carolyn Filak Royan Sextet

About

The much celebrated vocalist brings her top drawer sextet to the legendary Bull’s Head for an exciting evening of sultry, warm and witty cocktail jazz. Along with the songs of Cole Porter, Gerswin, Mercer, Gillespie and Miles Davles Carolyn pays homage to Ella Fitzgerald, Anita O’Day, Nancy Wilson, Olivia Dean and Melanie Gardot along the way, Mezzo Soprano Carolyn Filak Royan originally began her career as a classical opera singer singing ‘Carmen’, and ‘The Countess’ as well as performing in musicals as Julie Jordan in ‘Carousel’.

Carolyn also made her Carnegie Hall debut with grammy nominated harpist Kirsten Agresta-Copley and has sung at the South Bank, St Martin In The Fields and the Edinburgh Festival. Carolyn subsequently expanded her repertoire to include jazz performances alongside her husband the acclaimed bassist James Royan and has fully embraced the genre and sound.

Expect to hear numbers such as “Lover Come Back To Me”, “Lush Life”, “You Go To My Head”, “Misty”, “A Night In Tunisia” and Love Me Or Leave Me” among many other gems on the night. Carolyn will be ably supported by some of the UK’s finest musicians with Jeremy Robinsonon trumpet, Marcus James on piano, James Royan on bass, Stuart Ashton on saxophone and Paul Teesdale on drums.
