Join us for the next production in our OT Lunchtime Plays series, Trifles by Susan Glaspell.
The seaside resort of Provincetown, Massachusetts was the setting for the founding in 1915 of the highly influential Provincetown Players, one of the United States’ first modern theatre companies.
Co-founder Susan Glaspell’s plays, often inspired by her home state of Iowa, were performed through the early 20th Century and earned their author a Pulitzer Prize.
Written in 1916, and revived at the Orange Tree in 2008, Trifles sees an investigative team arrive at the site of a suspicious death in a remote farm. As the sheriff and county attorney comb the scene for evidence, it is the local women who, reading the signs in what seem to be simple domestic objects, begin to piece together the true circumstances of, and motivation for, the deceased’s demise.
