About
Performers:
- Ben Markovic, piano
- Daisy Livesey, soprano
Director of Music at St Mary’s Barnes, Benjamin Markovic is joined by soprano Daisy Livesey for a richly coloured programme spanning late-Romantic to early modernist song. They begin with Berg’s Seven Early Songs, written between 1905–08, where luxurious post-Romantic harmony meets the emerging language of the Second Viennese School. Debussy’s Ariettes oubliées, his atmospheric Verlaine settings, offer shimmering nuance and emotional delicacy. Interwoven throughout are Britten’s folk-song arrangements, reimagining traditional melodies with clarity and expressive wit. Ben also performs Moeran’s Two Legends for solo piano, evocative miniatures shaped by modal inflections and pastoral lyricism.
