About

Bassist Dave Jones leads this classic jazz Nonet with a multi-generational cast showcasing some of the UK's finest jazz musicians including Henry Lowther & Mark Armstrong on trumpet, Nick Mills on trombone, Tony Woods on alto, Pete Hurt on tenor and Chris Biscoe on baritone sax. The rhythm section comprises of John Turville, piano, Dave on bass and Tristan Mailliot on drums plus special guests percussionist Demi Garcia Sabat and guitarist Mark Ridout, the band concept based on the classic nonet line up of 'three brass', 'three reeds' and 'three rhythm'.

Playing and exploring the Nonet arrangements of great American writers such as Bob Hammer, Marty Paich and Frank Griffith provided the inspiration for the band while Dave’s experience of performing with the Pete Cater Big Band , Ronnie Scott’s Jazz & Soul Orchestra ,the BBC Big Band and his formative days with ‘Eurojazz’, the European Community Youth Jazz Orchestra provided a unique perspective on writing for this classic line up. “Dave’s writing is sophisticated and nuanced. Just when you think you know where he is going, there is a there is a change of texture or tempo ….. it’s beautiful! …” - London Jazz News

The program will explore Dave’s arrangements of standards, classic jazz repertoire and original compositions evoking the energy of big band swing alongside Latin jazz and contemporary European jazz textures. Expect a dynamic evening with gentle and evocative moments through to blistering highs with improvisations of the highest level along with brand new music written this year.
