About

Owen Elsley (Director of Music at St Michael’s Church and Assistant Director of Music at King’s College, Cambridge) and Paul Greally (Assistant Organist at Westminster Abbey) present a programme of English and Australian song for tenor and piano. The programme explores “musical roots” old and new, with world-premiere works by Chris Williams, who shares Owen’s hometown of Newcastle, Australia, and Paul, who was Organ Scholar at King’s College in Owen’s new home of Cambridge. These are presented alongside a captivating, posthumously-published cycle by Gerald Finzi, who had an affinity for a different kind of “root”: he is credited with saving several varieties of apple from extinction.
