Celebrate Pride Month with a creative cyanotype workshop exploring the beautifully diverse and wonderfully queer side of the natural world. 21 June Back by popular demand, and in celebration of Pride Month, join Queer Ecologist Connor Butler for a hands-on cyanotype printmaking workshop celebrating the diversity of nature through art. Developed in the 1840s, cyanotype is an early photographic process that uses sunlight to create striking blue-and-white botanical prints. By arranging pressed plants onto light-sensitive paper, you'll craft your own unique artworks to take home. As we create, we'll explore the fascinating world of plants that challenge traditional categories—sex-changing trees, non-binary flowers, and species that defy rigid life cycles. Connor will share how these plants have been used as symbols within the LGBTQ+ community and uncover their deep-rooted queer connections in science, culture, and mythology. Expect creativity, curiosity, and a fresh perspective on what we consider "natural." Pride Month is a time to celebrate LGBTQ+ communities, visibility, and inclusion. This workshop offers a welcoming space to reflect on diversity in both people and the natural world, blending storytelling, ecology, and art in a joyful and thought-provoking way.
