About
The workshop of film model makers and prop creators, Colne Road Studios has a long history of craftsmanship, observation and making. Today, that creative spirit continues, making it the perfect place to explore one of art's oldest subjects with fresh eyes.
Guided by artist Anna Milgrom, you'll begin with the timeless traditions of still life—taking inspiration from the Dutch Masters and their extraordinary use of light, form and composition—before exploring how contemporary artists look at everyday objects with a modern eye.
Whether you're returning to art or picking up a pencil for the first time, Anna's supportive guidance will help you develop confidence in observation, drawing and painting.
This 2 part taster course , taking part on Sunday 9th August & Sunday 13th Sept (also available as a stand alone £55.00, both workshops £100.00) offers an introduction to the broad and fascinating genre often known as "still life," while encouraging participants to develop their own creative approach to drawing and painting from observation.
Objects have been a rich source of inspiration for artists for centuries. From the symbolic abundance of the Dutch Masters, through the quiet, contemplative bottle paintings of Giorgio Morandi, to Jim Dine's iconic tool series of the 1970s, artists have used everyday objects to explore observation, meaning, memory and personal expression.
These taster sessions are an opportunity to discover whether this is a subject you'd enjoy exploring more regularly. We'd love your feedback, as we're considering developing still life into an ongoing programme at Colne Road Studios.
