About
If we were deprived of all our senses, how would we experience reality? This unique immersive installation creates a narrative audio piece inside your own body. Participants lie in a custom 'sound bed' built to exploit sensory phenomena through innovative bone conduction techniques.
The piece is inspired by Dalton Trumbo's 1938 anti-war novel Johnny Got His Gun. It was developed by sound artist and theatre director Jonny Danciger (The Sound Collector, Beauty and the Beast) with support from ArtHouse Jersey.
This installation works using bone conduction - the same technology that drives many hearing implants. Therefore, this audio installation will be accessible to many hearing-impaired individuals.
Is bone conduction safe?
Yes. We experience it naturally all the time, and bone conduction technologies have been used in audiology for decades. However, since it vibrates the head, participating in this installation is not advised if you suffer from severe migraines, arthritis, or known skull/neck weaknesses.
How long does the experience last?
The audio experience will last around 15 minutes, plus a couple of minutes to get you set up and customise the installation to your specific body.
