About
Richmond Rugby is one of the sport’s most historic clubs, founded in 1861 and based in the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames. As the second-oldest rugby club in the world, Richmond played a pivotal role in shaping the game, helping to establish the Rugby Football Union in 1871, pioneering the Women’s Rugby World Cup in 1991, and becoming one of the first clubs to enter the professional era.
Today, Richmond Rugby is one of the UK’s largest community clubs, with 29 teams across minis, youth, men’s, women’s, and touch rugby, offering opportunities for players aged 4 to 70+. There is truly something for everyone.
The senior men’s team competes in the second tier of English rugby, playing an exciting, attacking style at Richmond Athletic Ground, which holds 4,500 spectators. Our traditional colours, old gold, red, and black, are instantly recognisable, and the club’s nickname is “The Mond.”
Richmond’s women’s programme is among the most successful in the country, with nine Premiership titles, and continues to be a leading pathway for developing talent. The club has also produced many notable players across its pathways, including Ben Clarke, Scott Quinnell, Emma Croker, and Louis and Tom Lynagh.
Whether you’re looking to enjoy live rugby, get involved in the sport, or introduce your children to a welcoming community club, Richmond Rugby offers an inclusive environment for all.
